1976

Today is the anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising. Thankfully FIFA will be laying a ceremonial wreath on the Hector Peterson Memorial.

When I went to Soweto our tour bus stopped long enough for us to take a picture, grab a bunny chow at a spaza shop, and get back on the bus so we could go to the mega mall. Below is my one picture.

How tokenistic, all around.

Here is a great little piece from the NYTimes Goal blog about today. And here is another piece about the dark side of African soccer. If anyone has Current TV let me know, I want to watch this. Human trafficking is whack.

ps. Happy Bloomsday!
